A tree change in Western Sydney, roofed in LYSAGHT LONGLINE 305

Renovator and TV host Cherie Barber, founder of Renovating for Profit and a familiar face on The Living Room and Space Invaders, has swapped city living for an acreage in Western Sydney, and she's filming the renovation that comes with it.

The Farmhouse follows her overhaul of a tired rural property into a modern farmhouse built for comfort, lower running costs and long-term living. Lysaght is a partner on the build.

Renovation in the rural world

The property takes in a main residence and a separate guest house. Cherie's brief for both is practical: a home that's comfortable to live in, cheaper to run and suited to a rural block with bushfire requirements and native wildlife on site. Snakes, eagles and even an endangered snail or two come with the territory. The build is filmed as it happens, with the real-life drama of plan changes and juggling trades left in. This is a tree change, but it's far from low-tech. Cherie also has help from Tinnie, a humanoid robot working on site as a digital companion, who explains product choices to viewers at home.

A roof made for country living

The main house and the guest house is roofed in LYSAGHT LONGLINE 305 in COLORBOND steel Surfmist. LONGLINE 305 has tall, slender ribs and broad, flat pans, fixed with concealed clips so no fasteners break the roof plane. Surfmist is a soft white that suits the farmhouse look, and lighter roof colours reflect more of the summer sun than darker ones, a simple way to help keep the home cooler.

Sheltered outdoor living at the guest house

LYSAGHT LIVING patios will also wrap the front and back of the guest house, giving it sheltered outdoor space on both sides. LYSAGHT LIVING patios are made from Australian steel and supplied as pre-welded, pre-drilled kits. It's the kind of sheltered spot that earns its keep, with the versatility to enjoy a morning coffee at one end, and evening drinks to wind-down at the other.
