Three Birds Renovations are back, and House 18 has a French accent. They've named it Maison Soleil, French for "Sunhouse", a full renovation of a Castle Cove home on Sydney's North Shore. The series premieres on the Three Birds Renovations YouTube channel on Monday 31 August, with the front facade reveal in Episode 2 on Monday 7 September.

Introducing Maison Soleil

The house belongs to a family of five who had lived there for nine years and knew exactly what they wanted to change: open plan living, better flow between inside and out, a pool for three young boys, and enough bedrooms that they were no longer sharing.

Three Birds have run the whole project through a French country lens: mixed cladding layered with brick and timber, clean gabled rooflines, a barn style garage door and a rustic timber pergola at the entry, all grounded by a soft neutral palette and wild, textural landscaping. It's a home built for the way an Australian family lives, with French farmhouse character throughout.

A roofline that had to hold its shape

The gabled rooflines are the architectural statement of the house, so the roof had to carry them without compromise.
