With its historic charm, spectacular seascapes, and abundance of wildlife, Victor Harbor is one of South Australia's most popular coastal destinations. The town's rugged coastline 80 kilometres south of Adelaide offers panoramic views and stunning granite landmarks, making it the perfect location for a new residential development, The Frontage.
The Frontage is a A$12 million three storey complex built by Adelaide builders, Candetti Constructions. The project consists of 36 luxury apartments, as well as a pool, gymnasium, three retail outlets and a secure undercover carpark.
Designed by well known Adelaide architectural firm Loucas Zahof, the airy and spacious building makes the most of the available natural light, with atrium style corridors open to skylights overhead. The apartments feature the highest quality fittings and finishes, and some of the best sea views in the district.
One of Adelaide's leading roofing and plumbing companies, Penn Roofing and Construction, provided all roofing and rainwater systems for the project.
Established in 1989, Penn Roofing and Construction has a sound reputation for roofing expertise and quality workmanship. "I started in domestic residential roofing and plumbing as a sole trader," says owner Dave Pennington.
"Over the years, the business has grown with the size of the projects we undertake, and we now have projects all over metropolitan Adelaide, as well as regional South Australia. Our particular expertise is in medium to large commercial projects. I also enjoy the challenge of difficult or complex designs. We pride ourselves on our professionalism and also in doing things the traditional way, using proven methods, we don't take short cuts."
It's this commitment to quality and service that made Penn Roofing and Construction the obvious choice for The Frontage development. "The project has gone very smoothly," says Dave. "The weather conditions down here are always challenging, but we had very little trouble with the job."
The apartments are roofed in 1,200 square metres of LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK 700 HI-STRENGTH® in COLORBOND® Ultra steel colour Surfmist®.
A high performance profile, LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK 700 HI-STRENGTH® enables long spans, and extremely long runs. The wider sheets also make installation quicker, especially on bigger jobs. And with no exposed fasteners, the sheets provide a clean, smooth finish to the roof.
"We chose LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK 700 HI-STRENGTH® because it's really good to work with," explains Dave. "It's a great profile to lay, and the clips make it very easy to use. Plus, the profile offers good clean lines, which was important on an architecturally designed job like this. It's our preferred deck."
The building's proximity to the ocean meant that a durable, corrosion resistant material was needed for the roof. That's where the availability of LYSAGHT® roof cladding in COLORBOND® Ultra steel comes in. Developed primarily for coastal environments, COLORBOND® Ultra steel's unique combination of protective coatings makes it one of the most cost effective, corrosion resistant materials available.
"The use of LYSAGHT® cladding in COLORBOND® Ultra was critical, as it's a seaside development," says Dave. "It's durable, corrosion resistant, and is a superior product all round."
According to Dave, the service and support offered by BlueScope Lysaght is a significant factor in his decision to use LYSAGHT® products. "The key criteria I look for in a supplier is the ability to produce the product for the job, and deliver it to site with the minimum of hassles, as well as good technical support and problem solving expertise," says Dave.
"We use BlueScope Lysaght on the majority of our jobs. They are very easy to deal with. Their sales team is excellent, they're easy to talk to and get things done. The main thing is, they're not just interested in the sale, but in the project itself, and how they can help to make it a success."
