5 THINGS WE LOVE ABOUT AARON & DANIELLA’S OUTDOOR RENOVATION
They may have won the 2017 season of House Rules (Seven Network), but Gold Coast couple Aaron and Daniella Winter haven’t put down their tools just yet. Fresh off their win, the couple started their own company Hype Build + Design, and Daniella a former entertainment manager, joined husband Aaron in the full-time building trade. “Something came over me and I thought ‘you know what, I want to do this as a full-time career’” Daniella says. Now, as the couple debut their first big project on YouTube, a classic Gold Coast waterfront house flip on Moola Court Broadbeach Waters, we decided to check in with Daniella to chat about their beautiful LYSAGHT LIVING® patio overlooking the area’s iconic canals.
1. THE FOCUS ON OUTDOOR LIVING
“I know a lot of people say kitchens sell homes—but really, I think it’s the outdoor entertainment area,” says Daniella. “Everyone wants that great outdoor space to have a BBQ with your mates because the weather is so good, especially here in Queensland.” The couple’s focus on improving the outdoor area’s pre-existing concrete slab proved an instant hit with potential buyers. “We’ve had more than 300 people come into the home and say ‘you’ve nailed the outdoor area’”, says Daniella. “It’s actually one of my favourite spots!”
2. EMPHASISING AN INDOOR/OUTDOOR FEEL
When Daniella was in early talks with Aaron, she was clear about her ‘musts’ for the outdoor space which extended off the main living area. “I’m going to need bi-fold doors, and we need to create that indoor/outdoor feel!” she says. “I’m really big on that – especially if you have children, and I think we’ve achieved that.”
3. THEIR INNOVATIVE BRIEF
“When we engaged LYSAGHT LIVING®, we told them we wanted to incorporate warmth into the space and not have that sterile feeling. I wanted it to have character,” says Daniella. Working with LYSAGHT LIVING®, the couple were able to make a number of customisations that brought some of their personality to the patio add-on.
4. WARMTH & CONTINUITY
Aaron and Daniella’s LYSAGHT LIVING® patio features designer tweaks that take it beyond a standard patio solution. Creative customisations including the use of timber posts, along with the continuation of VJ (tongue and groove) panelling on the patio ceiling (also used within the main home) has resulted in a seamless addition. The beautiful modern coastal furnishings also help create a gorgeous, inviting space.
5. THE UNOBTRUSIVE ROOF LINE
“I’m so happy with the roof line and how it sits with the home’s overall roof line,” says Daniella. The choice to use a flat skillion roof for the patio was a smart one by the couple, as it allows for a sleek vantage point of the home when viewed from the canal, but also allows for totally unobstructed views over the water from the master bedroom.
