A guide to Hamptons style

Hamptons design guide

CHARACTERISTICS OF HAMPTONS HOUSES

Hamptons is an architecture style inspired by the prestigious beach houses along New York’s famous Hamptons coastline. The classic Hampton’s home is predominantly white, has a nautical theme, and has a relaxing and clean appeal.

In Australia, the Hamptons style has evolved to include features and characteristics to suit the harsh Aussie climate, and our relaxed lifestyle. Aussie Hamptons is a blend of coastal and country décor styles, with some modern elements.

TYPICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE HAMPTONS HOME

  • Predominantly corrugated gable roofs
  • Weatherboard façade
  • An alfresco/patio area
  • Large windows allowing for lots of natural light
  • An open floor plan
  • Colour is key - white and light grey are the main colours of a Hamptons exterior

The essence of Australian Hamptons style is a contemporary home that is light and open. Usually built around large open spaces for outdoor entertainment, it’s a style that seeks to embrace the Australian way of life.

COLOUR THE HAMPTONS WAY

Colour is a key part of the Hamptons aesthetic. A typical Hamptons design features white or light grey cladding, with a white roof, gutters, and fascia. However, contemporary trends have allowed for a more relaxed take on the traditional Hamptons colour palette.

Use shades of white and grey for the main structure, but for the accents, use soft colours that mirror the natural environment. This could include colours such as soft blues, eucalyptus green or earthy linen shades.

To create the iconic white gabled roofs that the Hamptons style is known for, Lysaght now stocks Dover White™ as part of our standard range of colours. Dover White™ is a classic, bright white, perfect for achieving the authentic Hamptons look and feel.
