For recent retirees Denise and Shane, improving their outdoor living at home with a LYSAGHT LIVING® patio was a no-brainer. “Shane had wanted a deck and patio and deck right from the very beginning,” Denise says. “We’re the type to live more outside than actually in the house. Shane will even have a snooze out here!” The couple from Albion Park, NSW, had previously lived in a home where their timber patio had begun to show its age. “It was around 10 years old, and it had warped and needed constant maintenance,” Shane says. “As you get older, you don’t want to be doing things like constantly re-lacquering things and replacing floorboards”.
There was also another important consideration in their search for a new patio. “Everything had to be done for us,” Denise says. “We didn’t want to have worry about things like running around to council. We just wanted to get a price we were happy with, that included everything.” They found their answer at Unibuild Sheds Albion Park, where by chance they found the company could actually install their patio and deck, too. “I had used Unibuild previously to build fairly large sheds,” Shane says. “But [dealer] Tim told us they do steel decks and patios, too.” The offer of an all-in-one solution was enough to seal the deal for Shane and Denise.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE DESIGN FEATURES?
“Making the new space look like an original part of the house was easy,” says Denise. “Our windows are painted in Classic Cream™ and we chose Surfmist® and Paperbark® for our new build. It was simple working within a well-known colour range.”
DID YOU CUSTOMISE A STANDARD PATIO DESIGN?
“Yes, there’s not one right angle used here at all,” says Shane. “Basically, our brief to Unibuild was to ‘fill up the hole’” says Denise. “And we’re just so happy with how everything has turned out. We expect that it adds quite a bit of value to the property, and it also gives us a space to continually freshen up with new furniture and other bits and pieces.”
WHAT IS YOUR BEST PIECE OF ADVICE?
“Even though everything is taken care of for you, I think you still have to be across what’s going on,” advises Denise. “I think it’s really important to ensure everyone is across the one masterplan – and that any changes are only made to this masterplan. Everything will be fine as long as there’s clear communication.”
