Tips for a Successful Re-roofing Project
Before You Start
1. Care and Storage: Always store LYSAGHT® products in a dry location. On-site, keep them off the ground and covered securely. If sheets get wet, dry them thoroughly to prevent damage.
2. Fasteners and Accessories: Use screws with EPDM rubber sealing washers, compliant with AS3566 Class 3 or higher, to ensure durability.
3. Brick Cleaning: Clean any brickwork near the roof area before installation to avoid damaging the new roof.
Getting the Job Done
1. Material Compatibility: Avoid contact between LYSAGHT® cladding and untreated timber or bare steel to prevent corrosion.
2. Walking on Roof Sheets: Use soft-soled shoes (like Dunlop Volley®) and walk along purlin lines to avoid damage or slips.
3. Cutting Sheets: When on-site cutting is required, use metal cutting blades instead of angle grinders to minimise heat damage and debris.
4. Sealants: Use neutral cure silicone sealants that are UV resistant, water repellent, and non-corrosive. Clean the cladding surface with white spirits like Shell X-55 before applying.
Finishing the Job
1. Swarf Removal: Remove all leftover fasteners, pop rivet mandrels, and metal scraps immediately to prevent rust stains.
2. Gutter Cleaning: Clear the gutters of any installation debris to ensure proper drainage.
3. Following Trades: Copper or lead pipes must be post-painted to prevent accelerated corrosion. Additionally, promptly clean mortar or concrete from roof sheets.
4. Cleaning and Maintenance: Use gentle detergents with a soft cloth or brush to clean the roof, followed by thorough rinsing with clean water.
