The Right Material For Your Location

LYSAGHT® products are manufactured from a range of different materials, each suited to different applications and environments

Our Materials Range

Galvanised Steel

For heritage and agricultural roofing projects in non-corrosive environments, galvanised steel is zinc-coated to provide a cost-effective solution featuring a traditional spangle effect.

ZINCALUME® steel

Featuring BlueScope’s industry-leading aluminium/zinc/magnesium alloy incorporating Activate® technology to protect the underlying steel from corrosion, ZINCALUME® steel gives profiles a traditional unpainted finish suitable for roofing and walling.

COLORBOND® steel

With three additional layers of protection including a vibrant topcoat layer in a wide range of colours, COLORBOND® steel is our most popular material, suitable for roofing, walling, fencing and more.

COLORBOND® Ultra steel

Designed for harsher environments (especially close to the breaking ocean) where a heavier metallic coating layer is required, COLORBOND® Ultra steel is incredibly durable, offering a range of colours specially selected to retain their colour in harsher environments.

SUPERDURA® Stainless steel

For roofing and walling projects in very severe exterior environments including marine environments, SUPERDURA® replaces the underlying steel substrate with stainless steel to provide exceptional durability in four extremely hardy colours.

PERMALITE® Aluminium

In the most challenging environments, PERMALITE® aluminium products provide Lysaght’s highest level of protection against weather, corrosion, and UV rays, ensuring optimal performance over a very long lifetime.

Marine Influence

For most projects in Australia, relative exposure to seawater and salt spray is the most significant factor affecting material choice.

Contact With Other Metals

Two different metals or alloys that are placed in electrical contact (including when water flows over each metal in sequence) can cause galvanic corrosion.

It’s important that the correct fasteners are always used for the material you choose, and that any later additions or modifications to a project are deliberately designed using compatible materials.

Weather Influence

Even away from the coast, atmospheric factors may influence the suitability of each material for your project, including prevailing winds, amount of rainfall, time of wetness, temperature and shelter from the elements.

For projects in cyclonic areas, added wind pressure can also impose additional design and installation requirements. See Designing for Cyclonic Areas for more information.

Industrial Influence

Where products may be subject to heavy dust, harsh chemicals, heat, and moisture, additional material restrictions apply (especially in unusually harsh environments such as enclosed swimming pool buildings and fertiliser manufacturing & storage buildings).

It’s important to get in touch to ensure your project’s specific environmental factors are considered before deciding on a material.
